Family Constellations is a powerful therapeutic and energetic healing process that helps uncover and release unconscious patterns, entanglements, and inherited trauma within your family system. It’s based on the understanding that we are deeply connected to our ancestors and that unresolved pain or imbalance in the family line can affect us in ways we might not consciously realize.

Here’s a breakdown of how it works:

The Foundation

Family Constellations was developed by German psychotherapist Bert Hellinger, who observed that deep healing often required looking beyond the individual to the larger system they belong to especially the family.

At its core is the idea of the Family Soul—an energetic field that holds the memory of all significant family events, traumas, and loyalties across generations. When something is left unacknowledged (e.g., a parent who was excluded, a sibling who died young, or a grandparent who carried shame), later generations may unconsciously “carry” or repeat those burdens emotionally, physically, or relationally.

What Happens in a Family Constellation Session?

There are different formats (group or 1:1), but here’s what a group process often looks like:

The Seeker (Client) Presents an Issue

You begin with a problem or question often related to relationships, illness, anxiety, inner blocks, or persistent patterns.

Representatives Are Chosen

In a group, other participants are intuitively selected to “represent” family members or elements (like mother, father, self, grief, addiction, etc.). In 1:1 sessions, objects or visualizations may be used instead.

The Field Reveals the Truth

These representatives are placed in the space according to the client’s inner image. Without scripts, they begin to experience emotions, body sensations, or movements that reflect the truth of the system. This is known as The Knowing Field an unseen energetic intelligence that emerges during the process.

Observation and Healing Movements

With gentle guidance, the facilitator helps reveal the hidden dynamics such as misplaced guilt, entanglements, or exclusions. Then, healing sentences or ritual movements are introduced to bring restoration, belonging, and love back into the system.

Integration

The constellation often ends with a shift in the energy of the field. Participants (especially the seeker) may feel a deep release, peace, or clarity. Over time, these internal changes can ripple outward, transforming relationships and behaviors.

Why It Works

Family Constellations bypass the intellect and go straight to the subconscious and soul level. You don’t need to know your whole family history. The field itself reveals what is ready to be seen and healed. And by restoring order, belonging, and acknowledgment in the family soul, you free yourself to live a more authentic, empowered life.
