What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture helps to restore and maintain balance in the body. Acupuncture and exercise can be equated when discussing the benefits and frequency of care. Just as exercise can be done with a specific short term focal goal, it is always helpful when maintained at the appropriate interval and intensity for the individual’s lifestyle and personal health goals. Acupuncture is very similar in maintenance and frequency.

There are so many benefits with virtually no side effects and no interference with other therapies, making it a perfect complement to mental health practices.

Acupuncture & Mental Health

The stress-relieving elements of acupuncture help to improve overall mood, emotion regulation, and boost feelings. Essentially, acupuncture helps by relieving built-up stress accumulated over time by stimulating areas of the body responsible for the production of vital emotion-managing hormones.

Therefore, acupuncture assists in releasing mood-boosting endorphins, which result in feelings of positive feelings and help with emotional regulation. Acupuncture works by restoring energy flow that, when not able to flow freely, can cause symptoms of stress and anxiety. Individuals experiencing symptoms of anxiety or stress disorders of various kinds can benefit.

Some of these conditions include:

  • Generalized Anxiety Disorder
  • Social Anxiety Disorder
  • Panic Disorder
  • PTSD
  • Acute Stress Disorder
  • Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder
  • Depression
