Noticing, Understanding, and Working with Energy

At Torus, we understand that energy is not just something we experience—it is everything. As the name suggests, Torus is a living energy, constantly flowing. The torus energy field shows us that energy moves in infinite directions, both up and down, at the same time.

At the center of this torus field is the heart. The heart generates the largest electromagnetic field around the body which is why we focus so much on heart energy here at Torus. It has its own energy field flowing around it, in addition to a larger field around the whole body. When you step into Torus, you may immediately feel this energy. You’re invited to discover and connect with your own energy field.

Energy is Important Because it Makes Up Everything.

Our cells, muscles, organs, skin—everything is energy. The food we eat becomes energy to keep us alive. But it’s not just about the physical. Our thoughts are energy too and they feed our emotional body, mind, and soul.

Our thoughts are shaped by the things we can control—people, places, music, clutter, and beliefs—but also by what we can’t control, like unconscious or subconscious beliefs shaped by how we were raised and what we’ve been through. These beliefs influence how our energy flows. When energy flows freely, we feel alive, connected, and at peace. But when it’s blocked, it makes us feel fatigued, disconnected, and less resilient.

Science Backs This Up

The HeartMath Institute found that the heart and brain are constantly communicating. The heart sends more signals to the brain than the brain sends to the heart, and when we feel positive emotions like gratitude or love, our heart rhythms become more coherent. This state of heart coherence improves emotional stability, mental clarity, and decision-making. In other words, when your heart’s energy is in balance, you feel more balanced overall.

Heart Rate Variability (HRV), a key indicator of well-being, is also connected to how we manage stress and emotions. Higher HRV is associated with greater emotional resilience, while lower HRV indicates stress or emotional imbalance. Practices like meditation, breathwork, and mindfulness—things we focus on at Torus—can improve HRV, helping you feel more centered and in control.

The heart is also where we process emotions. According to research in Neurocardiology, emotions like frustration or anxiety create chaotic, erratic heart rhythms, while emotions like compassion and appreciation create harmonious, smooth rhythms. This is why connecting with your heart is so powerful—it helps bring everything into balance.

One of the most fascinating findings is that the heart generates the strongest electromagnetic field in the body, even stronger than the brain’s. This field can be measured several feet from the body, and it changes based on our emotional state. Positive emotions strengthen this field, while negative emotions distort it.

Working with this Energy Field

At Torus, we work with this energy field through practices like Yoga (movement/asanas, breathwork/pranayama, and meditation), Acupuncture, Sound Healing, Light Body Work, and Reiki to help clear blockages and restore balance.

When energy flows smoothly—whether we’re conscious of it or not—we are connected to life source, to presence. It’s in this flow that we find peace and clarity. We can better listen to our emotions, discern what’s right for us, and step back from the constant chatter of our thoughts. Presence is key for clearing energy. It pulls us into the moment and opens a pathway to awareness and peace.

As Tara Brach, a meditation teacher and psychologist, says: “When we reconnect fully to presence, we can open to what is going on inside us—the changing flow of feelings, sensations, and thoughts—without any resistance.” In that space of awareness, we find the courage to embrace all parts of ourselves, just as they are.

When we become aware of our energy—how we treat ourselves, how we move in the world, and how we engage with relationships and things around us—we start noticing how we are treating our thoughts. This awareness is the first step to healing. It allows us to accept and understand who we are, and with that comes compassion, trust, and grace. In this state, we can start living with more ease, surrender, and forgiveness.

Eckhart Tolle calls presence an awakened state of consciousness, beyond the ego. It’s a state that’s always accessible, but the ego often distracts us with judgments, past regrets, or future worries. Tolle teaches that presence allows us to become observers of our thoughts and emotions, rather than being controlled by them. When we are present, we can allow divine energy to flow through us and access deeper awareness.

Learning to be Present Takes Time and Patience, but it Starts with Noticing Your Energy.

Our energy is the gateway to being in presence. When we are stressed, energy blocks form, limiting our ability to be fully present with ourselves and reducing our awareness.

At Torus, we offer tools to help you clear these blocks and restore your energy. Acupuncture helps clear energy stagnation, while Yoga clears and balances your energy field. Reiki/Sound Healing helps release trapped energy, and Spiritual Response Therapy works to clear past life energies. Even our therapy sessions are designed to help you process the energy around your thoughts, traumas, and belief systems.

By working with your energy, we help you reconnect to your heart, find presence, and live with more peace, clarity, and connection to yourself and the world around you.
