What is community acupuncture?
Community acupuncture differs from traditional private acupuncture in that it is administered in an open room group setting, there is no need to disrobe and points will be typically located on the arms, legs, feet, hands, head, face and/or ears. Many times, these are similar points we use during private sessions as well. The major benefit to community acupuncture is the cost savings to allow patients to be able to utilize acupuncture therapy more frequently as it is intended for wellness and preventative health.
Acupuncture therapy is a highly influential therapy that can help support physical health, and our systemic mental and emotional health. Traditional Chinese Medicine doesn’t separate physical health from our mental and emotional health. Acupuncture takes a more systemic and broad approach to therapy which allows the same treatment to help support and influence many physical areas as well as concurrent emotional and/or mental health maladies that may be bothering the patient.
Many times, like losing weight, we don’t see the weight drop off first as we begin working out. What we do notice is that we start resting better, having a better mood, our digestion and appetite are improved etc. In the same way, acupuncture therapy begins to balance our body and treat the whole system leaving us noticing how our whole body is responding to care. As you begin your acupuncture journey, be sure to be aware of your body and changes that occur in your first few sessions and share your experience with your provider.
What to Expect:
Patients will be seated in a comfortable chair for the 20-30 minute session. Wearing loose fitting and comfortable clothing is best. The skin will be cleaned with alcohol and needles inserted in specific acupoints. The points selected may be in the forearms or hands, lower legs or feet, scalp and ear. No disrobing will be necessary for acupuncture at Torus.
There are 4 chairs for patients and usually we have patients receive acupuncture for 20 minutes. Please select a 30 minute time slot below that works best for you below to reserve your spot.
